A boneless couch is the easiest sofa to get up narrow stairs. It arrives vacuum-packed in boxes about a foot square, each one light enough for one or two people to carry. There's no frame to twist around a landing and nothing to assemble with tools.

How big are the boxes?

Rove Lab publishes the carton size and weight of every M1 module. Each module ships in its own box.

Boneless Couch Living publishes figures across its catalog instead (August 2026 data):

Monvane and Ovios don't publish carton sizes. Ask before ordering if your stairs are tight.

Will it fit? Measure the route, not the room

  1. Find the tightest point between the street and your living room: a turn on the stairs, a hallway or a door.
  2. A box goes through on its second-longest side. For the Rove Lab arm piece, that's 12.2", so width is rarely the problem. Length is: a 40" box has to turn on the landing.
  3. Carriers usually leave boxes at the door. Rove Lab says no signature is needed and there are no delivery appointments, so plan who will carry them up.

From box to sofa

  1. Carry the boxes to the room first. Once expanded, a module is far bulkier than its box.
  2. Cut the plastic carefully, with the box on its side, and keep blades away from the fabric.
  3. Let the foam recover. Most are sittable within hours and reach full shape in two to three days; Rove Lab says up to a week.
  4. Join the modules. Rove Lab uses zippers, others use fasteners or simply push together. No tools.

Before you cut anything, check whether the brand takes the couch back once it's out of the box. Several don't. Return rules by brand.

Moving out later

A boneless couch won't go back into its vacuum bag, so it moves as full-size modules. Each module is still a single light block you can carry alone, which is easier than a framed sofa on the same stairs.
